Serie A club chairman insists rumoured Spurs target ‘has always been on the market’

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted that the club are willing to listen to offers for rumoured Tottnham target Arkadiusz Milik after he refused to sign a contract extension.

The striker has an excellent goals-to-games ratio for Gennaro Gattuso’s side this season, despite not being the first choice (transfermarkt).

Milik, who has only one year to run in his contract at the San Paolo Stadium is reportedly a player Tottenham have identified as an ideal back up to Harry Kane (Daily Mail).

It has been claimed that Tottenham face competition from Juventus (SportItalia via Area Napoli), with the Serie A champions said to be the Polish international’s preferred destination this summer (Tuttosport via Sport Witness).

Calcio Mercato even claimed last month that the 26-year-old has already agreed on personal terms with Juve.

De Laurentiis has now admitted that the striker is on the market and implied that Napoli have little choice but to sell him this summer.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “Milik has always been on the market. Since I’ve known the man, I’ve been asking him to extend his contract.

“He just looks at me and doesn’t reply. So at that point, you have to accept he has to leave.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We were being quite heavily linked with a move for Milik until a month ago but speculation linking Spurs with the Napoli star has died down a bit over recent weeks. It does appear as if we might have moved on to other alternatives like Callum Wilson or Troy Deeney following Bournemouth’s and Watford’s relegation from the Premier League.
