Serie A club director claims reported Tottenham target ‘wants to stay’

The Napoli sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Lorenzo Insigne wants to stay at the club.

Insigne was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, with reports even claiming at the time that Spurs were the front-runners to land the experienced wide-man.

Despite staying put at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the speculation over Insigne’s future has not slowed down, with Tottenham backed to reignite their interest in the attacker when the transfer window reopens in January.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno (as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed earlier this week that the Italian international’s wage demands are the major stumbling block preventing him from signing a new contract at Naples, with his current deal running out next summer.

It was explained that the 30-year-old is free to talk to clubs from January and is considering his various options, including Spurs, as ‘he looks around’ for a move.

However, Giuntoli has now confidently asserted that Insigne will be staying with the current Serie A leaders and that he is not paying any attention to the speculation.

The Napoli director told Sky Italia: “Insigne is our captain and we want him to stay here.

“He too wants to stay. The club has its parameters and he doesn’t let himself be disturbed by market rumours.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whether or not Insigne signs a new contract at Napoli, I do not believe Spurs should be going for him. I am not convinced that the 30-year-old will succeed in the Premier League. Besides, the last thing we need is another winger who prefers playing on the left.
