Serie A club director responds to his player being linked with Spurs and Liverpool

Fiorentina director Daniele Prade has insisted that the Serie A club have no plans to sell rumoured Tottenham target Sofyan Amrabat during the January transfer window.

Amrabat has been one of the best midfielders on show at the World Cup so far, with his solid displays in the middle of the park being a key reason why Morrocco topped their group ahead of both Croatia and Belgium.

The 26-year-old’s displays in Qatar have allegedly caught the eye of several clubs, including Premier League duo Tottenham and Liverpool.

La Repubblica (28/11/22 via Viola News) reported last week that Antonio Conte’s men could reignite their interest in the midfielder in January, having failed with a move for the former Club Brugge man in January.

Corriere dello Sport (29/11/22 via SportWitness) subsequently claimed that Spurs could face competition from Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp’s men said to be eyeing the Morrocan as an option to bolster their midfield ranks.

However, Prade has now dented Tottenham’s and Liverpool’s hopes of singing the Viola star by revealing that the Italian club have the option to extend the player’s current contract, which runs out in 2024 (Transfermarkt).

When asked about the speculation linking Amrabat with moves to Spurs and Liverpool, the Fiorentina director said (via Fabrizio Romano): “We want to keep Amrabat here, there’s no plan to sell him. We have an option to extend his contract next year. There’s no rush – he’s part of our plans.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Amrabat is a solid player and has the attributes to do well in the Premier League, another number six is the last thing that Conte will be looking for in January, even if Pape Sarr is loaned out as expected. So, I cannot see Spurs making an offer for the Fiorentina star.
