Serie A club director vows to ‘do everything’ to keep Spurs-linked midfielder

Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has vowed that the Serie A club will do everything in their power to retain the services rumoured Spurs target Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo is regarded as one of the most highly-rated midfield talents in Italian football (Guardian).

The midfielder has reportedly been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, with reports last summer indicating that the Lilywhites were seriously considering a £40million offer for the former Fiorentina player (Mirror).

The Italian international’s agent Claudio Vigorelli confirmed that Tottenham’s interst in the youngster last summer was serious despite their failure to get the transfer over the line (Daily Mail).

Leggo reported last month that the North Londoners still hold an interest in the Zaniolo and have been ‘pressing for months’ to sign him.

Petrachi has now revealed Roma’s intention to hold on to Zaniolo but he did not quite rule out the possibility of him leaving.

The Roma sporting director told Sky Italia: “Zaniolo represents the player who excites the fans.

“We will do everything we can to keep him, even if you never know in the transfer market.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The time to move for Zaniolo would have been last summer or during the January transfer window when we sold Christian Eriksen. On the back of another impressive season, his price would have gone up considerably and I doubt we would be in a position to pay what Roma would demand.
