Serie A club want to hand pay rise to alleged Spurs target to ward off interest – Journalist reports

Journalist Ciro Venerato has revealed that Napoli are prepared to offer a significant pay rise to rumoured Tottenham target, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, to ward off interest from Spain and England.

Tottenham were credited with an interest in Kvaratskhelia during last summer’s transfer window (Gazzetta dello Sport) but it was Napoli who moved swiftly to snap the winger for €10m (£8.7m).

The Lilywhites will be ruing the fact that they missed out on the Georgian, who has taken the Serie A by storm this season with 10 goals and 11 assists in the league in addition to two goals and three assists in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).

CalcioMercato reported back in December that Spurs’ interest in the winger has not gone away while Liverpool are also considering a move for the player.

Venerato has now revealed that Newcastle United and Real Madrid also have their eye on Kvaratskhelia, which is why Napoli are keen to offer the 22-year-old a contract extension.

The journalist told Rai Sport (20/02/23 as relayed by CalcioNapoli): “We are optimistic about Kvaratskhelia. The player wants to stay in Naples regardless of (interest from) Real Madrid or Newcastle.

“Napoli are preparing an offer for the renewal of the Georgian’s contract. The offer will be 2.5 million euros plus a series of rich bonuses. (They will) extend the contract by one year, making it five years without a release clause.”

Given how well Napoli are doing this season, Kvaratskhelia will certainly not be desperate to leave the club so soon after arriving.

However, the contract offer mentioned by Venerato is quite modest, and one would expect Premier League clubs to easily offer the Georgian more than three times that amount.
