Ryan Sessegnon has admitted that he wants to soak up Ivan Perisic’s experience and take pointers from the Croat’s game to improve his output in the final third.

Perisic’s arrival has not been as high profile as some of Tottenham’s other big signings this summer, with the 33-year-old arriving on a free transfer from Inter Milan.

However, the experienced wide-man will arguably be one of the most crucial pieces of Antonio Conte’s jigsaw, given his performances at left wing-back over the last couple of seasons.

Sessegnon, who made the left wing-back spot his own towards the end of last season, now faces a huge challenge in competing with Perisic for a place in the starting eleven.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported last month that Conte believes the Croatia international could help mentor the former Fulham man and aid in his progression as a wing-back.

Sessegnon has now said that he is keen to take as much from the 33-year-old’s game as he can, particularly when it comes to timing his runs into the box.

He told The Daily Mail about Perisic’s arrival: “I can learn a lot from him technically, mentally and physically. He’s already helped me with little pointers, tips about the way to affect the game more in an attacking sense and score more goals.

“Being in the box at the right time more often when the ball’s on the other side, being smart, using my brain, communicating a bit more. Whatever I can learn from him will help me in the long run. He’s scored a lot of goals in his career playing in that position.”

I believe one of the reasons Conte decided to pursue Perisic instead of a slightly more long-term option like Kostic, is because the Italian believes in Sessegnon’s potential. Working with the former Inter Milan man could potentially do wonders for the 22-year-old’s development.
