The Express say Mauricio Pochettino is ready to launch a double January transfer swoop for Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw to revive our bid for honours.

The article says how we have slipped outside of the top four and Mauricio Pochettino is ready to bring in reinforcements when the transfer window opens next week.

It adds that he is ready to battle Chelsea for England midfielder Barkley, who is returning to fitness after having surgery on a ruptured hamstring.Barkley, who is out of contract in the summer, played in a behind-closed-doors game at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground early last week.

The article adds how the 24-year-old, who appears on the wanted list of Arsenal and West Ham as well as the Blues, will be ready for first-team action in time for the transfer window.

It adds that Manchester United left-back Shaw is another long-term Pochettino target. The full back has struggled to settle at Old Trafford since his £30million move from Southampton in 2014 – he is also interesting Newcastle.

It concludes by saying Jose Mourinho will let Shaw leave the club to finance a £25m move for another supposed Spurs target Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. If United think they can get anything more than £10 million for Luke Shaw they’re having a laugh. I like Ross Barkley, but again Everton have left themselves in a situation where they have to accept a low fee.

That said, two young English players with potential to improve, on the cheap, might turn out to be shrewd business.

  2. There are a couple of pro s and con s.
Both Shaw and Barkley are young, they have proven succés and have potential. They could come to a good price.
Taking into consideration Brexit , they re British , no problem with ev. working permits and adds to the %tage of non foreigners in the team.
Of some concern are the injuries they ve suffered , but I believe señor Pochettino and his management can improve their physical strength.
I would very much like to see them both in the team. COYS.

  3. So is Pooch getting set for life after DR I’d rather have the young Fulham left back, he’s another Gareth Bale pace strength and can score a goal.
Barkley I can see being a hit at spurs as he’s fit a bit of Gaza ( never be another like him) in him on his day, so yes sign him, at least DA would get a kick up the backside.
