Sherwood criticises what he saw in Spurs warm up for Bournemouth game

Football pundit Tim Sherwood has criticised the warm-up routine of the Tottenham Hotspur players prior to the Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Spurs squad have come under scrutiny this season for appearing slow and lethargic at times. They went into the game against newly-promoted Bournemouth desperate for a win after losing their previous two league fixtures against Manchester United and Newcastle United.

After a poor first half and an equally bad start to the second half, the North London club found themselves two goals down. Thankfully, goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies, and a late winner from Rodrigo Bentancur secured all three points for Spurs at the Vitality Stadium.

While Antonio Conte is known to demand the highest level of fitness and work rate from his players, that hasn’t quite been on show this season, particularly at the start of matches.

According to Tim Sherwood in an appearance on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (29/10/22 at 2:45 pm), the warm-up routine of the Spurs players before the Bournemouth game did nothing to suggest the team were pushing themselves to the limits.

He said: “I just watched that warm-up, though. That warm-up. I didn’t like that. They are all jogging around. They are all like Mo Farah running around there.

“There’s no sharpness about their warm-up. Perhaps he needs to look at that. If they are slow starters, he (Conte) could look at that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs have certainly been slow to start games this season; a concerning pattern that really needs to be stopped as soon as possible. Whether the warm-up preparations has anything to do with that, I’m not sure. All I know is, if we came out of the blocks like we do in most second halves right from the first whistle, we would be far more dominant in games.
