Sherwood reveals the player Mourinho ‘absolutely slaughters’ against Liverpool

Tim Sherwood has claimed that Jose Mourinho slaughtered Matt Doherty from the sidelines after the Tottenham defender allowed Sadio Mane to get a shot away for Liverpool’s second goal.

All three of the goals that Spurs conceded against Liverpool came about due to basic individual errors at the back.

The home side held resolute for almost the entirety of the first-half before conceding a poor goal just before the interval when Serge Aurier failed to track the run of Sadio Maine which resulted in Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris failing to communicate and cut out Mane’s ball across the face of the goal which Roberto Firmino tapped into an empty net.

Lloris was also culpable for Liverpool’s second goal which came straight after the restart as the Frenchman parried Mane’s drive straight into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who picked his spot.

However, Sherwood noted that Mourinho was upset at Doherty for allowing Mane to escape his attention and get his shot away in the first place.

The pundit told Premier League Productions (28/1): “He (Doherty) gets too tight there (for Liverpool’s second goal), what he wants to do is feel you and he has spun him too easily.

“Mourinho has every right to be annoyed with Doherty and he absolutely slaughters him from the sideline, you see him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Mourinho has a selection dilemma on his hands in deciding who starts at right-back on Sunday. Doherty arguably deserves to be dropped on the back of his performance against Liverpool, while Aurier reportedly fell out with Mourinho and stormed out of the stadium at half-time. Perhaps, Jose will throw a curveball by starting Tanganga.
