‘Shock deadline day signing’ – Spurs linked with move for Barcelona star

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a surprise move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has reportedly been told by the Catalan giants to leave the club, having refused to sign a new deal and currently stand to lose him on a free transfer at the end of this season.

Tottenham are said to have been offered the French international, however, sources are reported to doubt a deal will happen given the financial demands of the transfer.

Barcelona want to receive a £16million transfer fee this month, rather than see him walk away for nothing while the 24-year-old’s salary demands of £8million a season are expected to cause Tottenham a significant obstacle.

Dembele has attracted late interest from Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea and all three Premier League clubs are reported to also be considering a move (Marca).

A £16million departure would represent a significant loss for Barca, who paid £96.8m to sign the Frenchman from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 (Metro).

Dembele is exactly the type of talent we need in the final third of the pitch, especially after the disappointment of losing out on Luis Diaz.
