Tottenham Hotspur were second best for most of the first 45 minutes against Olympiacos after the visitors found themselves 2-1 up at half time.
Jose Mourinho made only one change to the side that won against West Ham on Saturday with Danny Rose replacing the injured Ben Davies in the starting line up.
While some Spurs fans were pleased to see the Portuguese manager name pretty much an unchanged lineup, things certainly haven’t gone according to plan for Mourinho in the first half.
Olympiacos raced into a two-goal lead early in the game thus leaving Tottenham with a very real chance of being knocked out of the competition.
Tottenham huffed and puffed but fashioned very few chances despite Mourinho bringing Christian Eriksen on for Eric Dier on the half hour mark.
Thankfully for the Lilywhites, Dele Alli pulled a goal back just before half time after some dreadful defending from the greek side.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the first half performance:
When Son doesn’t play well, he plays very very badly. His worst half of football in a Spurs shirt tonight.

Say what you want about this season but that was our worst 45 so far. Bigger issues at this club than I think we realized.

That was a shocking first half. Sorry but Dier and Rose were so bad. Glad Dier got hooked but for Eriksen? Really? Better last 5 mins but all round shocking #COYS

If Son wasn’t Son Heung-min he wouldn’t be coming out for the second half. I love him dearly but he had a woeful first half. I don’t think this is a ‘tactical’ thing, I think there’s just a lack of movement. Heads dropped as soon as we conceded (which is somewhat understandable).

What I don’t understand is why Lo Celso isn’t playing in that Lucas position. He’d be perfect there in the 3241. Lucas central and deep doesn’t sit well with me

Jose’s fault for starting Dier but it ain’t his fault that are defence is completely useless. Fullbacks are shit but at least we’ve been given a lifeline and should now play with a little bit of confidence. Say what you want about Eriksen as well but he changes games

Spurs Web Opinion
A draw in this match will still be enough for Tottenham to seal qualification to the knockout stages as long as Bayern beat Red Star. That Dele Alli goal towards this end might thus prove extremely crucial in the end. While I believe we are capable of scoring more, I am not so confident that we won’t concede another goal.
