Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the top four suffered a major blow as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Anfield this evening.
The game was quite cagey in the first half hour but Liverpool exploited the space left by Spurs to take the lead as Robertson’s brilliant cross found the head of Firmino.
The Reds had some chances to double the lead but that’s how the score stayed till halftime.
Pochettino switched to a back 4 in the second half as Spurs came out the much stronger side.
The visitors dominated proceedings only and eventually got their reward when Lucas Moura equalised from close range.
Tottenham then had a couple of great chances to win it but neither Sissoko nor Alli could hit the target.
The Reds, however, got a fortuitous late winner when Lloris palmed the ball onto Alderweireld, and into the back of the net.
It’s fair to say Spurs fans were pretty gutted at the way the game ended, particularly considering how well Tottenham performed in the second half.
Here’s how some fans reacted after the result:
Fucking pissed off, we played well today. If Sissoko wasn’t the worst finisher in the history of the premier league we’d have taken all 3. Yet we have none.

It’s Liverpool’s year. I’ve always said it. Their luck is extraordinary.
Nothing unlucky about Hugo’s errors today though. They’ve both been embarrassing.

#thfc Thought that was a pretty encouraging second half from Spurs overall & credit to Poch for changing systems. Good news is that new stadium move should allow them to totally hit re-set button.

Easily one of our better performances at Anfield. Played much better than I expected. Sissoko should have absolutely scored with his chance or played Son in earlier. Alli wasn’t far away from scoring either. Shot ourselves in the foot in true Spurs fashion in the end. Fuming.
