‘Signs don’t look great’ – Pundit claims two Spurs players may struggle under Conte

Kevin Campbell has claimed that Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele may struggle to fit into Antonio Conte’s system and meet his demands at Tottenham.

Conte, who was appointed as Tottenham’s new manager last week, is expected to shake up the side and implement his own trusted methods to get the squad firing again.

The Italian immediately switched the formation into a back three with two in midfield against Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League, before implementing an identical set-up for the 0-0 draw at Everton last Sunday.

The change has so far affected midfielders Alli and Ndombele who have yet to start under Conte, with the latter only receiving late substitute appearances in the first two games.

Although it is early days for the pair under new management, former Arsenal striker Campbell believes they will continue to struggle in terms of breaking into Conte’s line-up as he feels they are not the type of players suited to the Italian’s system.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Alli is a number 10. That is not a position in this Conte team. I’m not sure how it is going to go for him.

“There has been crazy thoughts about Ndombele and Alli. At some stage, both players were supposedly heading out of the club. The next minute they are in the team again.

“Will they be able to do what Conte wants? And how he wants it? I’m not sure. Conte is very intense and particular in the way he wants things done. We are going to find out but the initial signs don’t look great for them.

“Everyone thinks this transition is going to be seamless but it won’t be. This is a tough ask.

“A new manager has come for the second time in six months. These players are constantly being asked to do different things. They will be learning different stuff again. The transition will take time.”

This seems a bit premature to judge considering every player has a clean slate under Conte. We need to wait until he has found a set-up that he prefers and he will have to test out a few players properly to achieve that.
