Simon Jordan says Xabi Alonso would have vetoed Tottenham decision if he was manager

Simon Jordan believes that Xabi Alonso would have made a very different decision from what Thomas Frank did recently if the 44-year-old had been the Tottenham head coach.

Various managers have been mooted as potential Frank replacements over recent months, and a new name has been thrown into the hat over the last 24 hours.

A report from Fichajes has claimed that Tottenham have reached out to Xabi Alonso after his sacking from Real Madrid.

The report asserted that the negotiations between the two parties are progressing positively, with the Spurs hierarchy wanting to showcase their ambition by hiring the Spaniard.

Simon Jordan reveals why he wants to see Xabi Alonso join Tottenham

Jordan has admitted that he would love to see the former Madrid boss replace Frank in the Spurs hotseat, but not for the reasons Spurs fans would think.

He suggested that, unlike Frank, a big name like Alonso will not accept signings like Conor Gallagher and opined that the new Tottenham leadership may struggle to fulfil the Spaniard’s demands.

The pundit told talkSPORT about Alonso: “I would like them to go to Tottenham because I’d like these owners that are saying things about Daniel Levy that I think are unjust and unfair.

“Not just because I like Daniel, but because I think it’s unfair what they’ve said and the way they’ve painted the picture to get their comeuppance.

“Because if you stick Xabi Alonso in there, he won’t be having any of their nonsense about signing players like Conor Gallagher. He’ll want the best players. He’ll want the biggest-name players.

“And you think (Antonio) Conte was a pain in the backside for Daniel Levy. Wait until Xabi Alonso gets in the door, based upon what we’ve seen at Real Madrid.”

Have the managerial sackings across Europe put Frank at more risk?

Alonso is not the only recently sacked manager thought to be on Tottenham’s radar.

It has been reported that Enzo Maresca is also admired by the Spurs board, with the Italian now back on the market after parting ways with Chelsea.

With these big names suddenly becoming available, the pressure on Frank has intensified, and the Dane will know that a couple more bad results may prove the end of him at N17.
