Simon Jordan suggests 43-year-old should reject Tottenham manager job

Simon Jordan has suggested that Steve Cooper should show loyalty to Nottingham Forest and stick around at the club even if the likes of Tottenham come calling for him in the summer.

Conte’s contract at Spurs runs out in the summer (Transfermarkt) and with each passing week, the possibility of the Italian leaving at the end of the season seems to be growing.

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that there is a sense behind the scenes at the club that it is best for all parties to go their separate ways ahead of next season.

Over recent weeks, the possibility of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham has been talked up (Daily Mail) while it has also been suggested that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi could be targeted by the Lilywhites (Football Insider).

GiveMeSport threw another name into the hat a few days ago, suggesting that Cooper is expected to be considered by Spurs if and when they look for Conte’s replacement.

The report added that the 43-year-old could also attract interest from the likes of Chelsea, West Ham United and Southampton.

However, Jordan believes that the Welsh coach should show loyalty to his employees and stick around at the City Ground.

When asked about the speculation over Cooper’s future, the former Crystal Palace owner told talkSPORT (3 March 2023, 10.30 am): “There should be some reciprocation in terms of the loyalty.

“I do think it was right for Nottingham Forest to give him a new contract because, quite frankly, he dragged them out of a division after 23 years of being away from the Premier League.

“From the bottom of the Championship to the Premier League. He deserved the opportunity he got to be in the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if Tottenham consider Steve Cooper but it is highly unlikely that he would be the North London club’s top target.

Everything at the moment points to Pochettino returning to the club in the summer as he is the most qualified person for the job from the managers who are available.
