‘Skilled’ – Tottenham man praised for his performance against European giants

Djed Spence has been praised for his showing on Sunday as Genoa came away with an unlikely draw from their trip to Juventus.

Spence will spend the remainder of the campaign at Genoa, with the Serie A outfit having the option to buy the defender permanently from Spurs for £8.5m this summer.

The 23-year-old has racked up seven appearances for Genoa in the league so far, having featured as a right wing-back as well as a left wing-back.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the former Middlesbrough man, who admitted to The Athletic last week that he still harbours the ambition of playing for Tottenham.

Djed Spence receives praise against Juventus

On Sunday, the on-loan Tottenham man played all 90 minutes as Genoa came away with a 0-0 draw from the Allianz Stadium.

The right-back was praised for his defensive as well as offensive contribution, with Virgilio Sport crediting the youngster for managing to keep Filip Kostic quiet.

The outlet gave Spence a rating of 6.5 and wrote about his display: “He counter-attacks and keeps Kostic at bay on his lane side. Quick on the restarts, not bad in the offensive phase. Skilled in closing down opponents.”

One would expect Genoa to take up the option to sign Spence permanently in the summer, given the modest fee involved. The only reason the deal might not go through is if the player himself has other ideas and potentially seeks a return to England.
