Tottenham Hotspur had a relatively worthwhile transfer window after managing to add Tanguy Ndombele, Jack Clarke, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon to their ranks.
However, the club’s transfer activity could still not be over with Christian Eriksen still being linked with a move away from the club with the European transfer window not due to shut until September 2nd (ESPN).
The Dane only has one year left on his contract with Tottenham and has made it clear that he would like to seek a new challenge away from North London whilst admitting a move to Real Madrid would appeal to him (Ekstra Bladet).
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the 2-2 draw against Manchester City that the transfer speculation surrounding members of his squad was negatively affecting the team’s preparation (Sky Sports).
Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has highlighted how big a blow it will be for Spurs to lose the Danish international.
Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (12:33pm, August 17, 2019), Thompson said: “His stats tell everything. You look at it last season, the amount of assists and amount of goals coupled together, that’s what makes him different from most players in the Premier League.
“That’s why he would interest Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

As it is apparent that Eriksen doesn’t seem to be at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist this summer, the ideal situation for all parties would be for the Dane to sign a contract extension with a release clause that would allow him to leave if the likes of Madrid come calling again next summer.
