Sky Sports journalist explains information he is getting on Pochettino amid Spurs links

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has suggested that Mauricio Pochettino might wait until the summer to see if Real Madrid come calling for him, with Los Blancos having previously tried to sign him on multiple occasions.

Unsurprisingly, Pochettino is one of the names that has been mooted as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte at Spurs over the last few weeks.

Sky Sports News claimed last week that the 51-year-old will accept the Tottenham job if he is approached by the club and added that several Spurs stars have already reached out to their former boss asking him to return to Hotspur Way.

However, Sheth seemingly has a different view, with the journalist suggesting that the former Tottenham manager might have his eye on the Real Madrid job.

He told GiveMeSport: “Pochettino has been approached by Real Madrid twice before, once when he was with Tottenham and once with Paris-Saint Germain.

“But because he was under contract at both clubs, he couldn’t even talk to Real Madrid officially and take on that job.

“This time, he’s in a position where he’s not in a job and probably why he wants to take his time.

“He’s taken his time to get back into football since losing his job at PSG.

“I wonder whether he’ll wait until the summer – because that’s the information we’re getting now – to see if it’s not just Tottenham who would be interested in him and whether Real Madrid would come back in.”

It is now virtually guaranteed that one of Nagelsmann or Pochettino will be available next summer.

It is unclear who Real Madrid’s top target would be among those two but it does seem like the Spurs hierarchy have a clear preference for the German over the Argentine.
