Sky Sports pundit admits Spurs summer signing has proven him wrong

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has admitted that James Maddison has proven him wrong after initially having some doubts over his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham swooped for the England international in a £40million deal from relegated Leicester City in June with the midfielder having signed a five-year deal with the North Londoners, having also attracted interest from Newcastle United (Sky Sports).

Maddison has hit the ground running under Ange Postecoglou‘s new-look Tottenham side and has played a pivotal part in their charge to the top of the Premier League table with two goals and five assists from their first eight top flight outings (transfermarkt).

Is James Maddison the signing of the season?

The former Aston Villa midfielder told Sky Sports: “I did have a question mark over Maddison going to Spurs, I didn’t know if he was going to be able to take the step up to being in that category of top-four. He’s done brilliant.”

The £40million which Spurs shelled out to land Maddison is already looking to be the bargain of the season with the player not only having impressed on the field but also having relished his role as vice-captain.

Some were left wondering where Tottenham’s attacking threat would come from after Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich, however, Maddison and Heung-min Son have particularly stepped up to the plate.
