Sky Sports pundit sings the praises of Pochettino

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has praised Mauricio Pochettino for Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive start to the new season.

Pochettino watched his Spurs side beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 in a nervy Premier League encounter at Molineux last night to take them back into fourth place above rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham are currently enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League campaign after registering 24 points from their opening 11 matches.

Before the new season had started, many had expected Pochettino’s team to struggle due to how many players were involved at the World Cup coupled with the fact that no new players were signed during the summer transfer window.

Spurs have also suffered injuries to key players during the early part of the season with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose all missing important matches.

Neville admitted that Pochettino is one of his favourite managers and holds the Argentine in high regard.

He told the Gary Neville podcast: “After they had all those players going far at the World Cup, the stadium issues, then they didn’t sign any players, you expect there would be some pain at the start of the season, but what they are doing is brilliant,” he said.

“Mauricio Pochettino has to juggle balls and his skills as a manager are being tested to the fullest, so he is being challenged, but he is coming through with flying colours.

“I love him as a coach, he is one of my favourite coaches in world football. Every time I see a Tottenham game I enjoy it, they try to play the right way, and he has done a brilliant job.

“They are sustaining top-four finishes and performing well game-in, game-out, season-in, season-out, and at the highest level I have seen over 30 years.

“Tottenham haven’t regressed; Manchester City and Liverpool are playing at a different level to two or three years ago when Mauricio Pochettino started.”
