Sky Sports reporter reveals PL club are ‘keeping an eye’ on Spence in case Spurs drop the ball

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has revealed Nottingham Forest are still keeping tabs on Djed Spence with his proposed move from Middlesbrough to Tottenham continuing to drag on.

Spence has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the summer, who were said to be confident of wrapping up a deal for the right wing-back (Football Insider).

However, negotiations between Spurs and Boro have been slow with Sky Sports reporting both clubs remain apart in their respective valuations of the England U21 international.

Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder recently admitted the club is still in talks with Spurs about a transfer and expects a deal to eventually come together this summer (The Northern Echo).

But Tottenham could be running the risk of letting other parties back into the race with Sheth claiming Forest, who Spence helped reach the Premier League last season, are still monitoring the former loanee’s situation.

He told Sky Sports News (27/06/22): “Djed Spence was the interesting one. He was, of course, on loan at Forest last season and he returned to Middlesbrough.

“We think there is a deal that is in process with Tottenham. But, I am also told with the Spence situation that Forest are keeping an eye on that because the deal with Tottenham is going on for a little while.

“Forest think, ‘If that doesn’t work out, is there an opportunity for them to maybe to bring Spence back to the City Ground?’

“But the other two they are definitely interested in, Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White. And they are just keeping an eye on Spence’s situation as well.”

Tottenham do run the risk of letting other sides enter the race for Spence given how long it is dragging out, but the general consensus seems to be that a deal will be struck.

No doubt Forest will be keeping a close eye on things after how successful they were with Spence last season, so Spurs need to make sure they are wary of that going forward this summer.
