Another day, another Tottenham transfer rumour. Today, Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
The England international is expected to depart Old Trafford this summer following the arrival of Victor Lindelof from Benfica and is now expected to be way down on the defensive pecking order under Mourinho.
According to The Sun, Mauricio Pochettino is looking for central defensive cover and has earmarked Smalling along with Swansea’s Alfie Mawson has potential candidates.
If this is true, it would probably spell the end for Kevin Wimmer, should the big Austrian be looking for more regular first team football although I cannot see anyone paying £20million for him if the report is to believed.
In fairness, whoever comes in are hardly likely to displace the partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen but we do need quality cover if either pick up a knock.
