‘Smile on his face’ – Alan Pardew admits he loves ‘brilliant’ Tottenham star

Alan Pardew has admitted that he is a big fan of Son Heung-min and loves watching the Tottenham star play.

Son endured a disappointing season last time out and Spurs desperately needed the South Korean to step up following Harry Kane’s departure in the summer, and he has done just that, having found the back of the net 10 times in the Premier League so far (Transfermarkt).

The 31-year-old has been used as a number nine most often by Ange Postecoglou this season but the Australian decided to move him back to his usual left-wing role against Newcastle, and the forward delivered what was arguably his best display of the season.

Son turned back the clock by producing the kind of aggressive, all-action display we used to see from him a few years ago, with his former teammate, Kieran Trippier struggling to cope with him.

Heung-min Son has a lot of fans around the PL

The Spurs captain skinned the Newcastle right-back twice before finding Destiny Udogie and Richarlsion in the box respectively for Tottenham’s first two goals, before stepping up to convert from the penalty spot in the second half.

On the back of Son’s showing against the Magpies, Pardew told talkSPORT (7:13 pm, December 10, 2023) about the Tottenham forward: “I do really love him. I think he is a brilliant player, and he plays with a smile on his face.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Son has an X-factor in the final third which none of our other attacking players possess (with the possible exception of James Maddison). I do worry about how we will cope without the 31-year-old when he jets off to Qatar for the Asian Cup.
