On the back of Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United, Jamie O’Hara has questioned how Tottenham could possibly offer Eric Dier a new contract.
Even though Dier has come in for some criticism from sections of the Spurs fan base, he has been a mainstay in the Spurs starting eleven.
The centre-back is reportedly on an £85,000-a-week contract and will enter the final year of his deal this June (Transfermarkt).
Football Insider reported last week that Tottenham were ‘keen to finalise’ a new three-year deal for the 29-year-old.
The report added that the North London club had already begun talks with Dier and are keen to tie him down irrespective of who takes over as the new head coach.
The centre-back failed to cope with Marcus Rashford in a one vs one situation towards the end of the first half on Thursday, with the Man Utd man rifling in the ball with his left foot.
Here’s how O’Hara reacted after watching that piece of defending from Dier:
Eric dier been offered a new contract 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ this is so bad #Spurs

I think most defenders would have struggled to cope with Rashford running at them in a one vs one situation in that position.
Dier did the right thing by showing the United star on to his left foot but the finish was excellent.
Irrespective of whether fans think Dier is good enough to play for us or not, it makes no sense to allow him to run his contract down.
Even if the next manager decides to sell the 29-year-old, Tottenham would want to protect his value so that they can get a decent fee for him in the transfer market.
