‘So poor’ – Pundit blasts Reguilon for what he deems to be sackable offence

Gabriel Agbonlahor has hit out at Sergio Reguilon for his poor defending for Manchester United’s third goal on Sunday, deeming the left-back’s effort to be a sackable offence.

Reguilon has arguably been the only player in Tottenham’s backline to show promise this season as the North Londoners’ defence continues to leak goals.

Individual mistakes from the back have cost Jose Mourinho’s men dearly over the last few months but the left-back has not been culpable for too many goals this season.

However, he was beaten too easily by Mason Greenwood in the latter stages of Sunday’s game as the Manchester United forward beat him on the outside and rifled home the third to put the icing on the cake for the away side.

While Agbonlahor acknowledged that Regulion has been good going forward this season, he insisted that the 24-year-old needs to improve at the back, particularly with the issues Spurs are having in central defence.

The former Aston Villa striker told Football Insider: “Reguilon is good going forward but with him, you’ve got the same argument you have with Trent Alexander-Arnold and England.

“He’s a very good player but with those centre-halves next to him you can’t be so poor defensively.

“The Greenwood goal, the manager would probably sack you in my day if you defended the way he did. It was so easy to get past him and shoot.

“Spurs are in a bit of trouble, to be honest. They’ve got zero chance of top four and zero chance of winning of the Carabao Cup.”

I thought Reguilion generally coped well with Marcus Rashford on Sunday but he made a poor decision to allow Greenwood to beat him as easily as he did. However, lapses in concentration at the back can happen when we are chasing the game with very little time left on the clock.
