‘So proud’ – Doherty takes to Twitter after completing Spurs move

After days of heavy speculation, Matt Doherty is now officially a Tottenham Hotspur player with the club confirming that he has signed a contract until 2024.

The 28-year-old made over 300 appearances for Wolves after signing for the club as a teenager back in 2010, representing them in League 1, the Championship and the Premier League (transfermarkt).

It was after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won promotion to the top flight in 2018 that Doherty’s reputation grew further with the experienced wing-back proving his attacking quality over the last two seasons.

The Republic of Ireland international has registered 15 goals and 15 assists since Wolves’ promotion to the top-flight, the second most goal involvements in that time out of any full-back in the Premier League barring Trent Alexander-Arnold (Football.London).

The experienced defender could not hide his delight at completing the move to North London in his first interview to Spurs TV and admitted that he is excited to get the ball rolling.

Doherty has now taken to social media to reveal his pride at completing the move to Tottenham:

What is clear from both Doherty’s interview to Spurs TV as well as Mourinho’s is that the player wanted to come to Tottenham and the Spurs boss wanted to have him on board. It is good to see that Levy is prepared to back Mourinho even if the players he wants do not fit in with the profile of signings the club usually go for.
