Some Spurs fans on social media reserved praise for Hugo Lloris despite Tottenham falling to a humiliating 3-0 loss against Chelsea on Sunday.
Lloris is into his tenth season at Tottenham, having been the club’s captain for the majority of that time.
It appeared as if the Frenchman’s time at Spurs may have been up in the summer as he was linked with a return to Ligue 1.
However, the 34-year-old ended up staying put and, despite the arrival of Pierluigi Gollini, has managed to retain the number one spot under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Lloris has arguably been Tottenham’s most consistent performer so far this season and the Les Blues star delivered another fine display between the sticks in the London derby but it was not enough to prevent Chelsea from running out comfortable winners.
Despite letting in three goals on Sunday, some Spurs fans on social media praised the experienced goalkeeper for his performance, insisting that the scoreline would have been a lot worse had he not been on song.
Hugo Lloris is honestly the difference between 2-0 and 6-0. He must be exhausted. pic.twitter.com/QVNQCk1pKD

I was thinking that at the endcof the match…how bad it could've been if not for Lloris. The old man still got it.👍

Damn right. You were bloody awful yesterday. So were most of the players except Lloris who was outstanding😠

Not been his biggest fan over the years but without him for the last 2 years we would have been bottom half team. Would have been 6-0 yesterday without him and don’t think we will appreciate him until he’s gone.

Spurs Web Opinion
Lloris’ form over the last couple of years has arguably been up there with the best we have seen from him during his Spurs career. The 34-year-old is certainly not showing any signs of decline and I expect the club to offer him a new contract sooner rather than later.
