Some Arsenal fans on social media have accused Eric Dier of playing mind games ahead of the North London derby on Sunday after the central defender claimed that Mikel Arteta was the most exciting young manager in European football.
Arteta took over at Arsenal a month after Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the Tottenham hot seat.
Although both coaches have had roughly the same time in their respective jobs, their predicament coming into the all-important derby on Sunday could not be any different.
Tottenham are currently sitting at the top of the table and Mourinho seems to have fully won over Spurs fans, with a recent poll in The Athletic revealing that the overwhelming majority approve of the job he is doing.
Arsenal on the other are languishing in 14th place and calls for Arteta’s head had been growing louder with each result, prior to their Europa League win last night.
This is why some Arsenal fans refused to take Dier’s claim about the Spaniard seriously.
Here’s how they reacted to what the central defender said:
Dier probably wants him to stay so arsenal can continue starting Willian in the future against spurs

If managing a squad of good quality players to 14th in the Premier League is exciting then we are at a new low.

Sounds like something someone excited to defend over 30 crosses aimed his way in a game would say. https://t.co/NmKQ4PYaOb
