Some at Spurs believe 18-year-old will vindicate lack of summer investment

The Daily Mail claim that Ange Postecoglou viewed a central midfielder as a priority signing head into the summer window but he later changed his mind following the arrival of Archie Gray.

Spurs signed Archie Gray for £40m

The report points out that the Spurs boss was quite keen on bringing a high-energy midfielder through the door, with the club exploring moves for the likes of Conor Gallagher and Jakob Ramsey.

However, as the window progressed, the position gradually became less of a priority for the club.

The reason for this is given as Gray’s arrival from Leeds United in a £40m deal on the back of his breakthrough season at Elland Road.

Archie Gray could vindicate Tottenham decision

The outlet adds that the 18-year-old has settled in well at Tottenham and that many at Hotspur Way believe that the youngster will vindicate the club’s decision to not sign a more experienced midfielder.

Gray has made two substitute appearances for Spurs so far this season in the Premier League but made his full debut in the Carabao Cup clash against Coventry City.

The youngster started at right-back and inverted well into midfield, despite Spurs putting in a pretty woeful performance and needing two late goals to progress.

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Gray and Bergvall are extremely young and we might not see the best of them at the highest level for another year or two.

Postecoglou will enjoy the challenge of bringing the best of the pair and converting them into finished products.
