Some Spurs and Argentina fans slam Juan Foyth after international display

Tottenham Hotspur may have enjoyed one of the world’s best defensive partnerships for the last few years in Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, but they must now plan for the long-term.

The Belgian duo each have just a year left on their current contracts and are both now in their thirties.

Spurs have some young up-and-comers in the form of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Eric Dier also in the squad.

However, some believe that Foyth does not have what it takes to become a class central defender, especially after his performance against Qatar for Argentina in the Copa America this week.

Foyth had an up and down season last time out, putting in some solid displays, but also enduring horrendous gaffs, such as the two penalties given away to Wolves or the red card after two minutes against Bournemouth.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I have said many times now that I rate Foyth very highly, but not as a central defender. For me, the sooner he converts to right-back of defensive midfield the better for his own development and for Tottenham’s sake.
