Harry Winks is a player who divides opinion among the Spurs fan base like few others. While some view the midfielder as one of the best in his role, others see him as more of a passenger who plays safe rather than taking risks.
It is thus unsurprising that rumours of a potential £40 million offer from Manchester City have evoked a mixed reaction from some Spurs fans on social media.
The Sun reported that Man City are ready to make a move for the England international, who Jose Mourinho views as being dispensable this summer.
Some fans admitted that they would snap City’s hand off if they offered £40m for the 24-year-old and insisted that the money could be used to strengthen in other areas.
However, others claimed that the club would be crazy to even consider selling a homegrown talent like Winks for the rumoured amount and suggested that the midfielder does not get the respect that he deserves.
£30M or more, and i'd take it every day of the week. Imagine if we could use that money to get Skriniar, without having to give up Ndombele.

Imagine being offered 40m for Winks and spending more than 30 seconds to decide.
I’ll take the money, drive him to his new club, help him put on his new jersey and drive him home after his medicals.

Out:
Winks £40m
Lamela £15mIn:
Young European Athletic CDM £25m
Eze Brooks or even Zaha £20/30mBalances squad better we’d have X2 Proper CDM and X2 AM. Plus refreshing aging injury prone Lamela and keeping current HG

I think winks to city for £40m is a great deal! I’ll happily drive him there myself for that

Winks is a neat and tidy player who would do anything for the club. He's a solid pro, no fuss and works his socks off. I like him.
But, after nearly 100 PL appearances he has 2 goals and 2 assists. He doesn't create much and he's is OK at winning the ball. £40m? Yes please.

Absolutely not, I'd start considering it at £55m

Poch, Mourinho and now Pep obviously really rate Harry Winks but JonnyYid78 says bin him off so I guess see you later Harry

We won't sell Winks. We have a homegrown problem as it is. Plus, despite what some people may think, Harry Winks is talented and I rate him highly.

Why we shouldn't sell Winks to City for even £40M:
-He is homegrown, we lack HG players – we can't register enough foreigners
-There aren't enough English CM's available as a replacement if we sell him
-We're improving Man City who we can possibly compete (now or future) pic.twitter.com/O8YMsYNOx0

Selling Winks would be huge mistake. Maybe not the best midfielder itw but he loves the club and shows passion when he plays. At least we know he got the Pep approval aswell👍🏼

Also funny seeing people say they’d snap City’s hand off for £40m. Seemingly missing the fact we’d then need to buy another homegrown player with that money.
Where are we getting an English midfielder who’s as good as Winks, without investing nearly all that fee in the deal?

Spurs Web Opinion
I am not surprised that some fans do not quite get Winks as a player as he possesses quite a niche skillset. For a possession team that likes to build from the back like Manchester City, the midfielder could be a great asset to have as there are few midfielders in the league as skilled at progressing the ball from the defence into midfield. It can be argued that the 24-year-old does not suit Mourinho tactically as his defensive awareness off the ball leaves a lot to be desired. However, I cannot see us selling Winks to another English club, especially given our problems with fulfilling the homegrown criteria.
Have something to tell us about this article?
DO NOT SELL HARRY WINKS.
Amazing ! Pep can see value in Winks to be part of the elite City set up and Spurs cannot unlock value from a homegrown Academy boy who bleeds Spurs. I am sure Mou can help Winks regain the heights he scaled to make him an England international – remember Glory glory Wembley night versus ReL when Spurs dominated ex-Spurs legend and winner of best palyer of the year, Modric ?
