Some Tottenham fans on social media are disappointed that the club have allowed Paulo Gazzaniga to leave on loan after it was confirmed on deadline day that the goalkeeper will be spending the rest of the campaign at La Liga club, Elche.
Gazzaniga has proven to be an able deputy for Hugo Lloris over the last two years and, barring one or two mistakes, the Argentine was a safe pair of hands.
However, the former Southampton man fell down the pecking order at Spurs this season after the arrival of Joe Hart, who now seems to be Jose Mourinho’s preferred understudy to Lloris.
Hart has been guilty of a few errors since arriving at Tottenham and it does not seem as though some Spurs fans are convinced that the England international is an upgrade over Gazzaniga.
Some fans admitted on social media that they would have preferred for the club to hang on to Gazzaniga over Hart.
I am absolutely shocked and gutted. I thought Paulo was amazing when deputising for Hugo. I don't understand why he suddenly slipped down the pecking order. Didn't make sense to me. Great player, genuinely passionate about the club. Hope all goes well for him

Not sure about this. Joe Hart was signed to bring ‘leadership’ and ‘wining mentality’ & we look bereft of this right now. I hoped that @GazzanigaPaulo would be the heir to #1 jersey. Look forward to having you back next season Paulo. Definitely @Elchecf_en’s gain. https://t.co/GnomiTrH56

The way he's been treated by the club is disgusting, how was he playing second fiddle to Joe Hart in the year 2021 😭 https://t.co/CHuZ7zuWbq

Such a wrongheaded decision again, we have replaced the serviceable back up with someone completely useless. https://t.co/dEXxX0pCSh

Let us hope he comes back to THFC. A much safer pair of hands than the No.2 and wish him well. https://t.co/ivynU9qUjR

The fact that Gazzaniga has lost his place to Joe Hart is confirmation that Jose is seriously delusional and must be stopped. https://t.co/B3wxn5NssJ

Spurs Web Opinion
Hart was brought in more for his leadership qualities and his influence in the dressing room rather than his abilities on the field.
However, for a player like Hart to make the expected impact off the field, he has to feel like he is part of the squad, which is why Mourinho was always going to use him as his second choice keeper above Gazzaniga. Only time will tell if it proves to be the right call.
