Some Tottenham fans have defended Davinson Sanchez’s performance in the 1-1 draw against Wolves after the central defender came in for criticism on social media.
On Sunday, Sanchez was handed his first Premier League start since Tottenham’s 3-3 draw against West Ham back in October.
The defender, who has been forced to make do with game time in the Europa League over recent months, has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in January.
However, Jose Mourinho gave him a big vote of confidence by playing him alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies in a back three at Molineux.
The performance from Spurs left a lot to be desired as they took the lead in the first minute of the game before resorting to sitting back and defending deep.
The Lilywhites were eventually punished by Wolves late on in the game and had to walk away from the match with just a point.
Sanchez received plenty of criticism on social media from some Spurs fans for his display on Sunday.
“Davinson Sanchez got too tight, committed himself.”
Story of his career!

Davinson Sanchez is truly awful. He needs to go in January as a priority.

Davinson Sanchez has to be the worst pound for pound signing in Spurs history

Feel sorry for Doherty, whenever he plays he always has Davinson Sanchez next to him, the guy literally stitches him up with every pass… #awful

I’ve never seen a CB that loses as many aerial duels as Davinson Sanchez.

However, others defended the Colombian and insisted that he is being picked on unfairly even though he had a good game.
Come on, the guy had a decent game last night, the whole back 3/5 had a good game, if they were that bad we would of lost the game

On the plus side, thought Sanchez was decent… Tanguy was unbelievable, and that were incredible lucky to get Højbjerg for as cheap as we did

Davinson Sanchez gets way too much hate. He’s Tottenham’s scapegoat. Played well today and is still getting insulted by fans

Spurs Web Opinion
Mourinho probably decided to start with Sanchez to cope with the pace of the Wolves attack and it is a strategy that largely worked, with the likes of Pedro Neto and Adama Traore failing to get in-behind our defence too often.
Barring a few nervy moments, I did not think Sanchez did much wrong in the game yesterday. There is certainly a case to be made that both he and Winks are made scapegoats by some Spurs fans even when others play worse than them.
