There was some talk regarding a crisis at Spurs a couple of weeks ago after the team suffered a poor start to the new season (Daily Mail).
However, Tottenham certainly put that to rest on Saturday as they delivered an exhilarating performance and demolished Crystal Palace 4-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The win takes Spurs to the third spot in the Premier League table and nicely sets up a busy run of fixtures coming up for the club over the next three weeks.
Mauricio Pochettino opted to hand Serge Aurier his first start of the new season and the 26-year-old certainly didn’t disappoint. He was a threat down the right hand side all game and had a hand in two goals, assisting one and seeing another of his crosses deflected into the back of the net.
While the former PSG man initially admitted that he was wished to leave the club in the summer (Bal des Productions), he has now insisted on the back of the performance against Palace that he is happy to stay for the season and focus on helping the club win trophies (Evening Standard).
Some Spurs fans on social media were left mightily impressed with the Ivorian’s performance. They implored Pochettino to make Aurier the first choice right back ahead of Walker-Peters, who started all of the first three games.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to Aurier’s performance against Palace.
Serge Aurier was spot on when he said there’s no competition at Spurs at RB. He’s our best RB and yet Poch still tends to opt to play KWP or Sanchez and even Sissoko there, smh.

Serge Aurier is having an absolute blinder down the right side. Noticeable difference in how we play when the full-backs want the ball. The Lane is rocking. #COYS

If we had bought Aurier this summer as our new right back, imagine the hype and excitement after yesterday’s ‘debut’

Aurier starts & we start playing like a decent footballing institution again. I see no coincidences.

Aurier, Toby, Jan, Rose.
Our best back 4 by a flying mile, we start that consistently and we’ve got something decent there.
Glad Aurier is back in our side too.

Spurs Web Opinion
Pochettino will breathe a huge sigh of relief that the club decided to hang on to Aurier beyond this summer. Had him and Tripper both been sold, then Spurs would have been extremely short of experience at right back. The Ivorian now needs to prove that he has the consistency to become the club’s first choice right back.
