Some Spurs fans puzzled as midfielder nominated for FIFPRO Men’s World 11

Tottenham Hotspur have started the season in blistering form and, therefore, it does not come as a major surprise that as many as five Lilywhites players have made the shortlist for the 2020 FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World XI.

While Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld, Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min deservedly made the list, some Spurs fans on social media were shocked to see Dele Alli’s name among the 55 most voted players.

Alli has struggled to get a look in for Tottenham this season, with his only Premier League start coming in the 1-0 loss to Everton on opening day (transfermarkt.com).

Most of the midfielder’s minutes this season have come in the Europa League but he was overlooked by Jose Mourinho for Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Antwerp on Thursday.

The England international has even been backed to leave Spurs when the transfer window opens next month (Daily Mail).

Some Spurs fans saw his inclusion in the list for FIFPRO Men’s World XI as further evidence of the meaninglessness of such awards.
