Tottenham battled valiantly away at Anfield but ultimately ended up being overcome 2-1 by Liverpool courtesy of two second half goals from the hosts.
Spurs went ahead early as Harry Kane stooped low to head home from close range after Son Heung-min saw his effort come off the post. After that point, it was backs to the wall mentality for Spurs for the remainder of the first half as the home side pushed in search of an equaliser.
Mauricio Pochettino had Paulo Gazzaniga to thank for ensuring Spurs went in level at the break. However, Liverpool equalised soon after the break and their pressure eventually told when Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot to put them ahead after Serge Aurier was adjudged to have fouled Sadio Mane.
Spurs then pushed forward in search of a second goal and fashioned a few chances in the final ten minutes but couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Some Spurs fans on social media were critical of Pochettino for waiting so long to bring on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso who enabled Spurs to get more control in midfield.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the result:
Pochettino started Eriksen Rose Aurier who have done nothing this season than been car crashes and ultimately they were Spurs 3 worst players on the pitch and cost us the game. He could easily have started Foyth Ndombele and Davies at least they want to be at the club ?

Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso came on and done so well yet stubborn Pochettino still will opt for the likes of spineless Eriksen who clearly has no interest for this club anymore, fraudulent decisions made by Poch at times.

Gazza,Toby,Sanchez,Sissoko,Ndombele,Lo Celso and Kane are the only ones who can be proud of that perfomance.
The rest, well I prefer not to speak

Today’s performance was poor but credit needs to go to Gazzaniga who once again stepped up with Lloris’s absence and with our defence being non-existent made some incredible saves to keep us in the game up until the penalty. It’s a shame for him we got nothing out of it

Pochettino’s subs far too late. Ndombele should’ve been on before they equalised. Lucas should’ve been on before their second. No idea how it’s so easy for people watching the game to see all this 10-15 minutes before the manager. Look how much better we were after the subs.

5 things we learned from Liverpool 2-1 Spurs:
1) Ndombele should play every minute of every game.
2) Ndombele’s dribbling is lovely.
3) Ndombele’s passing is unreal.
4) Ndombele’s full of brilliant, cheeky flicks.
5) Ndombele should play every minute of every game.

Can’t help but feel Spurs’ defeat to Liverpool was written as soon as the Spurs line-up was announced.
To select Rose and Aurier who consistently make individual errors and play Eriksen who was non-existent and doesn’t want to commit to the club is baffling.#THFC #COYS #LIVTOT

Spurs Web Opinion
Perhaps Pochettino decided not to start with Ndombele as he is not yet completely convinced of his fitness levels but there was no excuse for not bringing him on earlier given how much difficulty we were having controlling the midfield. It was also quite shocking to see how long he persisted with Christian Eriksen despite the Dane having yet another shocker.
