Some Spurs fans question Pochettino’s decisions after Liverpool defeat

Tottenham battled valiantly away at Anfield but ultimately ended up being overcome 2-1 by Liverpool courtesy of two second half goals from the hosts.

Spurs went ahead early as Harry Kane stooped low to head home from close range after Son Heung-min saw his effort come off the post. After that point, it was backs to the wall mentality for Spurs for the remainder of the first half as the home side pushed in search of an equaliser.

Mauricio Pochettino had Paulo Gazzaniga to thank for ensuring Spurs went in level at the break. However, Liverpool equalised soon after the break and their pressure eventually told when Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot to put them ahead after Serge Aurier was adjudged to have fouled Sadio Mane.

Spurs then pushed forward in search of a second goal and fashioned a few chances in the final ten minutes but couldn’t find the breakthrough.

Some Spurs fans on social media were critical of Pochettino for waiting so long to bring on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso who enabled Spurs to get more control in midfield.

Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the result:

Perhaps Pochettino decided not to start with Ndombele as he is not yet completely convinced of his fitness levels but there was no excuse for not bringing him on earlier given how much difficulty we were having controlling the midfield. It was also quite shocking to see how long he persisted with Christian Eriksen despite the Dane having yet another shocker.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Pleased to see that Pocc’s tactics are being seriously put in question but what is going to be done about it?
I have been saying this for weeks and months and still Pocc persists.
You think he will change?Don’t hold your breath.

  2. For all the shocking performances by Ali, eriksen, Rose and aurier I feel poch has been equally shocking with formations and team selections. The man is either playing a game to get sacked or simply does not have a clue.

  3. Winks is the player holding spurs back at the moment. Hes not strong enough for big games he is just not a top quality midfielder Jack wilshere was a far better player at the same age.
