Some Spurs fans react to Michael Oliver refereeing North London derby

Some Tottenham fans on social media are furious that the FA have decided to appoint Michael Oliver as the referee for the all-important North London derby on Sunday.

The clash will not only be the first taste of the North London rivalry as Spurs and Arsenal bosses for Jose Mourinho and Mikel Arteta respectively, but it will also have a big say on who finishes in the European qualification spots.

It was announced earlier this week that Oliver, who has hit the headlines for his controversial VAR call in Spurs’ 3-1 loss to Sheffield United last Thursday, would be taking charge of the derby.

Mourinho was understandably critical of Oliver’s decision to rule out Kane’s equaliser at Bramall Lane.

However, the Spurs boss was far from alone as several pundits questioned why the referee did not apply common sense to the decision.

Mourinho has so far refused to comment on the decision to appoint Oliver for the derby this weekend.

However, the same cannot be said of some Spurs fans who have been left fuming by the FA’s decision:

Oliver’s call to rule out Kane’s goal out was certainly frustrating but it was clear that he was following the laws. If there is anything that deserves to be scrutinized, it is changes made to the handball laws, which seem to be doing more harm than good.

I actually think the 35-year-old is one of the better officials in the Premier League. He usually is not too trigger happy and allows games to flow. So I do not think having him in charge of the NLD is a major issue.
