Some Spurs fans on social media have reacted positively to the idea of the club signing Benfica defender Tomas Tavares this summer.
The 19-year-old has impressed since breaking into the Benfica side this season and has been tipped to achieve big things in the future.
Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new right-back this summer (Football Insider), with Serge Aurier potentially leaving the club (Evening Standard).
The Sunday People (as relayed by TBR Football) claim that Spurs have identified Tavares as an option to upgrade at right-back and could be set to make an offer for the youngster.
The report asserts that the teenager could be available for around £9 million this summer and that the Lilywhites are competing with Atalanta for his signature.
Some Spurs fans were open to the idea of signing Tavares but only as long as the club also bought in another experienced right-back this summer.
They felt that while the youngster was one for the future, he was not the man to solve the team’s issues at right-back next season.
Comp Videos are solid. He's tall and wiry, which he uses to his advantage defensively. #Spiderman Love's a run into the final third. There's a player there.

I'd we can get him and another right back like Celik that would only cost like 25m

If we are after 2 right backs after Aurier is gone, makes sense to bring him in with someone experienced

I wouldn't mind having him as a backup but we also need an experienced back.

Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Aurier seems to be on his way out, I would expect us to bring in one younger right-back along with an experienced option like Celik or Castagne. However, Gedson’s showing on Saturday at right-back was quite impressive, albeit against inferior opposition. If Jose decides that Tanganga and Gedson can sufficiently cover for the position, we might just settle for one new right-back this summer.
