Some Tottenham fans on social media are in agreement with Graeme Souness’ assessment that Harry Kane dropped too deep against Chelsea on Sunday.
Kane has struggled for form since being reinstated into the starting eleven following the transfer saga during the summer transfer window.
The striker once again put in a lacklustre display in the London derby against Chelsea on Sunday as he was largely anonymous throughout the ninety minutes.
The 28-year-old has come in for plenty of criticism for his display in the 3-0 loss to the Blues, with some suggesting that he looks like a man who does not want to be at Spurs.
Roy Keane and Souness certainly did not hold back on their assessment of Kane after the game, with the latter questioning why the striker was dropping as deep as he was.
While some Spurs fans on social media were in agreement with Souness’ criticism, others insisted that Kane has no choice but to drop deep due to the lack of creativity in the Tottenham side.
He always drops deep, even for England he drops deep…its not like we are creating any chances and he should be in the box….if he doesn't drop deep, he doesn't get many touches and then people think he was anonymous. We have two world class players in kane and son.

But..there’s no service to him from midfield
— Graham Lanning (@grahamlan) September 19, 2021
Yes but that’s cos he knows unless he does he’d see even less of the ball than he does now.

He’s over it you can tell, this is partially why i wanted him to get his move because mentally he’s not with us rn

There are occasions were he exaggerates it so much. Like why does he needs to drop until the position of the cbs when you had an easier way to pass time n the middle field. It’s a role he mades so good but he should stop overdoing it

he’s got a point tbf, no creativity even when he’s there so what’s the point. only worsens our attack.

Harry Kane doesn’t want to be a spurs player. That’s literally all it is he doesn’t want to be here and obviously he’s playing like it.

Last season that tactic was successful because anyone didn’t expect but now every team knew that he gonna do that and this is not make something anymore

Spurs Web Opinion
This whole debate about Kane’s performance against Chelsea ignores the point that he was not playing as the central striker yesterday. Nuno deployed Son down the middle, with Kane playing off the left for the majority of the encounter.
I suspect Nuno did that because Son is a better presser than Kane while the South Korean’s pace would also stretch the Chelsea backline. It is hard to criticise Kane for his positioning since we do not know what Nuno’s instructions to him were.
