Tottenham Hotspur could only salvage a draw against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round today after going one behind for the fifth match in a row.
Spurs were without the injured Harry Kane for the trip after the striker tore his hamstring against Southampton last week while stretching for the ball.
Jose Mourinho has also not yet been able to name Hugo Lloris in his matchday squads since taking over as head coach, as the Frenchman is still recovering from a dislocated elbow sustained against Brighton earlier this season.
That means that both Tottenham’s official captain and the vice-captain who had claimed the armband of late were both missing today in the FA Cup.
According to Pochettino’s old vice-captain choices, the armband should then go to Jan Vertonghen (Football London), and it appears that Mourinho was keen to stick to that as ha named the Belgian as the captain for the day.
However, this received a mixed reaction on social media:

Captain 1mph. I’ve seen elderly people run for the bus with a quicker turn of pace than Jan has recently!
