Some Spurs fans urge club to beat Chelsea to PL central defender’s signature

Some Spurs fans have urged the club to snap up Lewis Dunk ahead of Chelsea amidst reports indicating that the Blues are looking closely at the Brighton star.

Dunk has been a consistent performer at the heart of the Brighton defence for several years and has built a reputation as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League following the Seagull’s promotion to the top flight in 2017.

The England international turns 29 in three months, meaning that this summer could be his final opportunity to make a big move.

The Sun claims that, although Spurs are interested in signing the Brighton star, it is Chelsea who are favourites to complete a £40m deal for the defender this summer.

The centre-half is apparently a lifelong Chelsea fan and that has reportedly given the Blues an upper hand in the race.

Some Spurs fans on social media believe that Dunk would be an excellent fit for the Lilywhites and urged the club to beat their London rivals to his signature, while a few others insisted that he was not worth the reported £40m.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dunk is a solid, no-nonsense defender but I would argue that we do not need him as much as Chelsea do. We are much more settled at the back partly due to the fact that Eric Dier has thrived in central defence. While I do expect us to bring one central defender in this summer to replace Vertonghen, I would not be surprised if we went for younger centre-back with potential rather than an established star like Dunk, who would require considerable investment.
