Tottenham released their new player squad numbers for the upcoming season on Saturday and there were a few talking points from the announcement.
It was confirmed that new signing Matt Doherty would be wearing the number 2 shirt, while Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Joe Hart wear ‘5’ and ’14’ respectively.
However, some Spurs fans on social media have been left surprised that Cameron Carter-Vickers’ name was missing from the list altogether.
Jose Mourinho has seemingly decided not to give the centre-half a squad number despite using him extensively in Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies.
Following an impressive spell on loan at Luton in the second half of last season, the USA international gave a decent account of himself against the likes of Ipswich, Reading and Birmingham but the 22-year-old has not done enough to earn a place in the squad.
Given the kind of fixture schedule that the Lilywhites face over the next twenty days, some Spurs fans are surprised that the centre-back was not included as an additional option.
So why play him in most of the friendlies 🙈🙈

I like CCV, I think he can play at PL league level and would be happy for him to stay this season as 4th or 5th choice CB

Shame, really like CCV, thought he played well in preseason and thought Jose liked him. Was also training yesterday ?♂️

Hmmmm, particularly pleased to see White in there. Surprised by CCV even if just for the short term.

No squad number for CCV, which is frustrating. Especially given schedule over the first month of the season. Hopefully he lands at a Premier League club. Either on loan or permanent. https://t.co/BYPYbHNc8M

Spurs Web Opinion
This suggests Carter-Vickers is either set to be loaned out or sold this summer. Seeing as there has been no update on a contract extension for the centre-back, I suspect that it will be a permanent transfer this time rather than another loan.
