Some stale Spurs stars have had their heads turned say Match of the Day pundits

Tottenham Hotspur have been a tight-knit and largely unchanged group through the years under Mauricio Pochettino when it comes to the starting XI.

The likes of Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, and more have been at the club for years now.

In fact, the only player Spurs have bought and put into the regular first team in the past two years is Tanguy Ndombele, with Lo Celso and Sessegnon yet to regularly feature.

Some believe that the ageing squad is in dire need of a shakeup and a refreshment, if Levy is prepared to spend the money that is.

As it stands, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, and Eriksen are all set to leave on frees at the end of this season, meaning Spurs won’t be able to recoup any money to invest in new players.

Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy have now claimed that some Spurs stars have gone stale and had their heads turned.

Shearer said (Match of the Day 05/10/19 at 22:30 – as quoted by the Express): “Eight players from five and a half years ago are still at Tottenham. Seven of them played today, that shows some of them have gone stale.”

Murphy added: “I think some of them have had their heads turned. They don’t want to be there.”
