Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios for some time now, but there has been a key update on the situation today.

Barrios came face to face with a number of the Spurs boys this summer as Colombia took on England at the World Cup.

Davinson Sanchez’s teammate wasn’t the most popular bloke on the pitch or the nation’s TV screens as he was pictured stamping on Henderson and then celebrating in the England player’s faces after an equalising goal.

England had the last laugh though, as they defeated Colombia on penalties.

Sportwitness report that Tottenham were lining up a £25m bid for the central midfielder, but no deal ever materialised in a signingless summer for Spurs.

In a report on Argentine radio, one journalist claimed that Spurs already have an agreement to sign the player in January.

However, this is reportedly an agreement with the agent alone, and Spurs would still have to agree a fee with the club, Boca Juniors, likely to be 23 million Euros.

Some Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news.
