‘Something has shifted’ – Journalist talks up chances of Spurs swooping for 18-year-old

Journalist Paul Brown believes there is truth in the speculation linking Arthur Vermeeren with a move to Tottenham, claiming that Ange Postecoglou would be willing to play the youngster regularly despite his inexperience.

While there had already been a lot of hype around Vermeeren ahead of last summer, the midfielder has now well and truly emerged as one of the best players in his age group across Europe following his exploits in the Champions League this season.

The youngster has already won two senior caps for Belgium and is expected to play a key part in the nation’s European Championship campaign in Germany next summer.

It has been widely reported over the last couple of months that Spurs are one of the clubs to have scouted the teenager this season (90 min).

The Sun even asserted that a couple of weeks ago Tottenham have moved to the front of the queue for the midfielder’s signature ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham are happy to place faith in youth

Brown has now said that there has been a big change in Spurs’ transfer strategy since Postecoglou arrived through the door, asserting that the Australian coach would be prepared to throw Vermeeren straight into the deep end.

When asked about the speculation linking the Belgian starlet with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think something has shifted really at Spurs now and Postecoglou is willing to try and give chances to younger players. S

“So I think whoever they sign will know that and you will see them in the first-team if they were to make a signing like that. So I think Vermeeren clearly would be one for the future, but I think he would get minutes if they were to bring him in.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems like Vermeeren could well be the option that Tottenham fall back to if a deal for Conor Gallagher proves beyond their reach.

Even though the 18-year-old is seemingly of interest to several big clubs, one would expect Postecoglou to be able to convince the teenager that a switch to Spurs would be the right next step for him.
