‘Something wrong’ – Redknapp makes admission about Tottenham’s top-four hopes

Harry Redknapp has claimed there would be something wrong at Tottenham if the club are not able to challenge for the top four with the squad they have at their disposal.

This season was looking as though it could be a write off for Spurs until October, with the Lilywhites struggling to put results together under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, performances and results have been transformed since Antonio Conte took over at the start of last month. The Lilywhites are unbeaten under the Italian, having won four and drawn three of their seven Premier League matches.

That has brought them right back into the race for a top-four finish, with Spurs currently sitting five points off Arsenal in fourth place, with two games in hand over their North London rivals.

Redknapp insisted that he has not been surprised by the turnaround in Tottenham’s fortunes under Conte, with the former Spurs manager pointing to the relatively easy fixtures they have had over the last two months.

When asked about Tottenham’s top-four hopes, the 74-year-old told talkSPORT (29/12/21): “I will be truthful. The games have fallen in their favour. They have had plenty of home games.

“And they have good players. Have a look at their team. They are entitled to be up there. But if they can’t finish in the top four with that team, then there is something wrong.

“You look at the start of the year, top three, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“Then you are looking at Man United or Tottenham really. They are entitled to be pushing for a top-four place.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is worth remembering that barely anyone gave Spurs a shot of finishing in the top four at the start of the season.

However, I do believe our squad was underrated by many due to the fact that many players under-performed last year.

Finishing in the top four will be a phenomenal achievement for Conte, given how far adrift we were when he took over.
