Heung-min Son and James Maddison have both insisted that there are plenty of positives to take from the season but both players stressed that Tottenham still have plenty of room for improvement.

While the season started in tremendous fashion for Spurs, the results were extremely poor in the final couple of months of the campaign, with the team limping over the finishing line.

Ange Postecoglou’s men ended up missing out on Champions League qualification but the squad seemingly still remains upbeat about the direction that the club is heading in.

Ange Postecoglou has made a solid start at Tottenham

Son insisted that he was particularly proud of the way that the players stuck together through adversity and the way his teammates responded to difficult moments.

Reflecting on the 2023-24 campaign, the Tottenham captain told the club’s official website: “Collectively, from the more regular starters to those coming on, everyone has been so supportive and has wanted to improve. I’m so appreciative of that because it has helped bring everyone together.

“Sometimes, when we’ve been in a tough moment, this group has shown that everybody is ready to play for this team and I’m really pleased to see that as captain.

“I really appreciate everyone that’s come into the squad, even young players like Mikey Moore who has been training with the group and working really hard, it’s great to see these kinds of things.

“Generally, across the whole season, it’s been very positive, and we’ve been making steps forward. Obviously, there is still room for improvement, but the overall positive energy suggests it’s been a great season.”

Maddison says Spurs are on the right path under Postecoglou

Maddison pointed out the difficult position that the club were in ahead of the season, given the managerial change and Harry Kane’s departure, with the attacking midfielder insisting that the campaign gives the side a platform to build on.

The former Leicester man said: “I would say it’s been a positive season, yes. New manager, a bit of an overhaul, losing the club’s best-ever player on the eve of the first game… a lot of pundits had their say on what our season would look like, and we’ve stayed in and around the top four, top five, and we finished eighth last year, so, it’s improvement – not where we want to be – but looking back, on reflection once the season’s done, we’ll be able to take positives from it and build for next year.”

While one cannot deny that there have been signs of progress this season, there were also a few alarming signs towards the end of the campaign.

I fear that if we do not start next season well, some of the players might start losing faith in the system.
