Son wants to continue his goal combination record with Harry Kane at Spurs

Son Heung-min has admitted that he and Harry Kane want to continue adding to their goal combinations despite already holding the all-time Premier League record.

Son and Kane have both combined for 41 goals in the Premier League, with the pair overtaking the previous record holders, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba (36) last season (Goal.com).

The South Korean is coming off the most productive campaign in his career as he shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah in 2021/22.

Meanwhile, Kane also had a strong finish to last season and has looked extremely sharp during pre-season so far, having found the back of the net five times in Tottenham’s three friendly matches.

Son admitted that he and his strike partner are very similar personalities off the pitch and are always trying to improve as players.

When asked about his partnership with Kane, the 29-year-old told GQ Korea (as relayed by Standard): “We are really close. We understand each other really well, and we also know how the other is off the pitch.

“Kane and I both know what the other likes. It’s really special. We have already made 41 goals together.

“What Kane and I really have in common is that we both have a lot of greed and have the strong will to always improve. Even beyond football skills, our mindsets are similar.”

Son also admitted that he and Kane want to pull clear of the pack and continue adding to their goal-combination tally.

He said about the record: “I want to continue the record that I have set with a team-mate like this, although our record will be broken one day.

“Even when we’re training, if one of us makes an assist for the other’s goal, we joke around saying, ‘Hey, it’s our 42nd goal now?’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect both Kane and Son to have one of their most productive seasons in front of goal in 2022/23, given the volume of chances per game we were creating towards the end of last season. If I were a betting man, I would not hesitate in putting money on Kane to win the Golden Boot.
