Luka Modric, who has been linked with a return to Tottenham, has revealed that he expects to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid.
Modric has been an excellent servant to Madrid since swapping Tottenham for Los Blancos back in 2012.
Despite being 36 years of age, the midfielder is still going strong and continues to be a vital part of Carlo Ancelotti’s set-up.
However, there is some uncertainty over the Croat’s future as he is now into the final six months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Fichajes journalist Ekrem Konur said last week that Madrid are in talks with Modric over a one-year contract extension.
He added that, should the club not be able to reach an agreement with the midfielder, Spurs could look to bring the midfielder back to North London as a free agent in the summer.
However, Modric has now poured cold water on speculation linking him with a move away from Madrid by insisting that he will ‘surely’ reach an agreement with the La Liga giants.
The former Tottenham midfielder said (via Fabrizio Romano): “There is nothing, nothing better for me than being a Real Madrid player.
“I’m not thinking about the renewal now. The club knows what I desire. We will surely reach the agreement soon.”

The speculation linking Modric with a return to Spurs seems to arise at this time of the year regularly. However, the midfielder invariably ends up extending his stay at Madrid.
It is unlikely to be any different this time around, particularly given that the former Tottenham man is showing no signs of decline despite his age.
